Hi! I'm Miss Serman.
I'm a former English teacher and a dedicated tutor. I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education and a Master of Science Degree.
After teaching secondary school English in both South Africa and the United Kingdom, I have a deep understanding of the subject and how it is pedagogically geared. I know that English can be a complex and intense subject to master but that it can also be an incredibly rewarding and beneficial subject to study. My teaching experience has allowed me to distill the examination objectives into a focused methodology which facilitates step-by-step learning and the building of skills to expand and extend thinking.
The GCSE English curriculum is varied and dense. My approach is firstly to ensure an understanding of the assessment expectations and then to work methodically through the theoretical framework required to succeed. From there, the focus is on applying these skills through revision and past paper practice with feedback designed to improve and uplift. What I appreciate most about tutoring is the opportunity it gives to help students on a more personalised level so that they can get specific feedback and encouragement to achieve their best.
There is a strategy to succeeding in English — it requires diligent perseverance and the opportunity to build important skills for whatever your future holds. I am looking forward to guiding you on your English journey!
